Hal Barrett, 67, of Washington, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, in Washington. Hal was born to Darlene (nee Heisel) and the late Harold Barrett in Washington on May 4, 1950. He was united in marriage to Bette Holtmeyer on November 15, 1969, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Hal lived life to the fullest; he enjoyed thrilling the grandkids with rides in his fast car and owning his own excavating business was a dream come true. Despite his big, tough guy exterior, his friends and family knew him as a loving and caring man who would do anything for them.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Miller Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 1, from 4 until 8 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Memorial donations are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Hal is survived by his dear wife of 48 years, Bette Barrett of Washington; his mother, Darlene Barrett Kossina of Washington; two daughters, Jacque Owens and husband Chad, and Jill Langford and husband Chuck, all of Washington; one son-in-law, Bernie Holdmeyer of Washington; one sister, Laurie Hellmann and husband Charlie of Washington; five siblings-in-law, Tom Holtmeyer and wife Debbie of Eureka, Ed Holtmeyer and wife Chris of Washington, Paul Holtmeyer and wife Shelly of Villa Ridge, Melvin Straatmann of Villa Ridge, and Janis Meyer and husband Mike of Owensville; seven grandchildren, Logan, Brooke, and Parker Owens, Morgan and Carver Holdmeyer, and Marleigh and Weston Langford; a special niece, Michelle Bobo and husband Matt; a special nephew, Danny Straatmann and wife Michelle; other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Barrett; one daughter, Liz Holdmeyer; one grandson, Connor Owens; two sisters-in-law, Gail Straatmann and Ruth Holtmeyer; and step-father, Lou Kossina.
