Crystal L. Johns (nee Daugherty), 69, of Washington, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018, in Creve Coeur. She was born on December 31, 1948, in Kauai, Hawaii to the late Francis Ira and Leona Rebecca (nee Sipes) Daugherty. She was united in marriage to the late Larry Johns on October 22, 1977, at the Presbyterian Church in Washington. Crystal began her 33-year career as a high school Spanish teacher in the Washington school district and continued teaching in the Rockwood school district until her retirement. She and a group of close friends enjoyed their “Gourmet Club” for over 25 years, building a close and dedicated friend community through monthly meals and fellowship. She was a talented scrapbooker, antique hunter, and a Nippon collector. After her retirement, she turned her attention to volunteering with her Faith congregation at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ where she dedicated herself to assisting with the Food Pantry and the Social Concerns Committee.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 11 am at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Washington. Interment is private. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Food Pantry.
Crystal is survived by two siblings, Kevin Daugherty and wife Judy of Peru, Indiana and Betty Jo King and husband Tim of Michigan City, Indiana; four siblings-in-law, Diana Bischler of Garner, North Carolina, Gary Johns of House Springs, Missouri, Susie Naucke of Barnhart, Missouri, and Gary Dials of Cincinnati, Ohio; other relatives, and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Larry Johns; and two siblings, Lynell D. Dials and Bradley L. Daugherty.
