Betty June (Kilmartin) Sumner

Elizabeth “Betty” June Sumner (nee Kilmartin), 91, of New Haven, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. She was born on June 8, 1927, in Cairo, Illinois to the late Daniel and Edith (nee Clouatre) Kilmartin. On December 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Asa Sumner in Cairo, Illinois at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a loving wife and mother who cherished time with her family and took delight in spending time with her grandchildren. Betty worked as a manager for over twenty years at Sears, Roebuck, and Company in St. Louis.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at 9 am at Assumption Catholic Church in New Haven. Burial will be at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, December 12, at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 11, from 5 until 7 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Memorial donations are appreciated to New Haven Care Center or Masses.

Betty is survived by four children, Maureen Ellis of Bridgeton, Missouri, Gary Sumner and wife Jean of St. Ann, Missouri, John Sumner and wife Birgit of Durango, Colorado, and Michelle Turner and husband James Turner, MD of Washington; one sister, Carol Miller and husband John Miller of Jacksonville, Illinois; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one great-granddaughter, Edy Sumner.
