Alan E. Kleekamp, 62, of Washington, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Grandview Healthcare Center. He was born on February 25, 1956, in Washington to the late Hugo and Edna (nee Trentmann) Kleekamp. Alan was born with many challenges. He was deaf, mute, and blind in one eye. He was never formally educated but because of his curiosity and love of learning, he was able to teach himself many things. He taught himself to read and write beautifully, use his computer to look up things he was interested in, and translating English to German with the hopes of going there in 2056.
He collected over 1,200 rubber stampers and was always writing notes for either an outing to the grocery store, Purina Farms, Thumbelina the world’s smallest horse, and the fair making friends everywhere he went. He had a love of animals and his family.
He was truly a fighter, battling colon cancer for 4 1/2 years with over 70 treatments. Never once complaining, he was a true miracle. He was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
